Pretty cool Flash-based fighting game.
I can’t wait for this show to actually start. It looks like it might be a lot of fun.

From here, kadyellebee: “fontyness” June 28, 2003, I wound up following a trail that led me to an incredible dingbat and fleuron resource here: FontGarden Dingbats.
Most of the dingbats are freeware. A few are inexpensive shareware, postcardware, donationware, or, in one case, toyware. As freeware, they are almost all Windows TrueType, but if the outlines are good, they should be pretty easy to convert to OpenType or Type 1 or to any Mac format with FontLab.
There are some fantastically useful symbols and dingbats in this collection. Check out the Buttons & Dividers section especially.
In the replies to last week’s Saturday Slant Jewdez mentioned the fact that, in the screen shot of My Current Desktop, my taskbar replacement is shown to have a minimized browser parked on Jewdez’s blog.
First, I wasn’t aware until I posted that particular desktop that I was getting any interest in the My Current Desktop feature. I’ll admit, I haven’t been scrutinizing the logs that much of late. Within the last week I’ve gotten quite a bit of feedback, though.
On that note, an aside: For those who asked, when I post the next one—when I change my GUI again—I’ll include descriptions of what each program/feature is, and, if it’s available to the public, where you can get it.
Getting back to the main topic… After going through the day’s Slants I went to visit a few of the blogs on my blogroll. When I got to Jewdez, I found this post. In it she states:
It’s the little things… That make my day, make me smile… like a hug from my daughter, a kiss from my son, an ‘I love you’ from the hubby… o’ and an email alerting me to:
‘you like me, you really really like me’
This is one of the little things that make my day. Making someone else smile always makes me happy.
I’m glad I could make you smile, Jewdez!
How and on whom do you spend it? It’s the old question, what would you do with a million dollars, with a twist. If you suddenly had this money you must spend, but were not allowed to directly benefit from it in any way, how would you choose to spend it? How you answer may reveal a great deal about you.

I discovered today that I have over 5,000 MP3s—27 Gigabytes!—spread across three harddrives. Enough is enough.
I’m positive that a fair portion of them are duplicates. But how am I to tell without crawling them one at a time? Afterall, many are named with the artist first while others are named with the album or track title first. Still others use paranthetic file names or even album track numbers as the filename’s leading information. How do I organize them into album folders without reading each one?
What I need to do, I realized, was somehow rename the files to a uniform, easily understandable scheme.
Enter MP3 Collector. When I became frustrated this morning with sheer volume of my MP3s it took me five minutes with a carefully worded search string—”auto mp3 title rename”—to locate MP3 Collector. This nifty little shareware app (for which I paid ten minutes after installing it) will read in the title, artist, album, track number, and much more about each MP3 on my system. Then it will rename, in batch, all my files to match my preference. In this case my preference is [Artist] - [Album Title] - [Track No.] - [Track Title].mp3.
I’m in the process of consolidating and cleaning up my MP3 library right now.
We’ve all been discovered, at one time or another, doing something embarrassing. Perhaps a macho man was caught by “the boys” speaking goo-goos and ga-gas to a baby on the street. Maybe your mother walked in on your teenage love fest. These experiences turn us red and make us, on the spot, wish to die, but not long after they gain stature in our memories as the greatest anecdotes. What were you caught doing? Who caught you?

…pariah… …sleepy…
Heroes abound, if we recognize that heroism is not simply grand gestures of self-sacrifice for the sake of another. Courage is doing what must be done despite one’s fear. Heroism is doing what must be done for another’s sake despite one’s fear or the cost to oneself. Usually heroes are those who perform many little acts, small sacrifices, to help others. Who is a hero in your life? What was one of his/her acts of heroism? How has that person’s heroism effected you?

The 10th was Strawberry Blonde’s birthday. The 9th was my mother’s birthday. The 5th was Strawberry Blonde’s daughter’s eigth birthday. The 3rd was Anna’s birthday.
For Strawberry Blonde’s birthday I surprised her with a beautiful flowering plant, a balloon, and stuffed bear as a centerpiece to a candle-lit dinner she hadn’t expected in my dining room. Dessert was a rich cheesecake crowned by a quartet of candles. After dinner we took a bubble bath lit by floating candles.
Her gift was a porcelain jester doll carefully chosen in New Orleans. She loved it.
All the temperature and climate changes between Portland, Dallas (layovers there and back), and New Orleans, and their respective alternating air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned locales, took their toll on me. I’m sick. [sniffle] Blah!

You’re Chile!
You’re really skinny, and kind of bumpy in frame, but you’re not as rough a person as you used to be. You like long, long, long walks on the beach and avoiding having your rights violated, just like anybody else does. You’re even willing to stand up to those with more power and influence than you, trying to bring them to justice. Fight the man!

I’m totally impressed by the above site. The background graphic is too dark to comfortably read atop, yes, but the site creator is twelve years old! Yeah, a twelve year old made that site. Obviously she’s very talented. I’m impressed at the level of HTML and graphics skill, as well as her UI sense. The site is not professional grade, no. It is, however, pretty damned good—for anyone of any age—but incredible when considered in the context of the author’s age.
I’m back from New Orleans and the 2003 HOW Design Conference. I’ll be posting a few missives about my trip and the conference. At this moment, though, I just ran across this on The Hestia Chronicles and wanted to share.
Someone was very creative and assembled a tarot deck that pays homage to the 1980s. Some excellent choices of famous personalities for various archetypes; for example, Ferris Bueller is the Fool; Morrissey as the Hermit; Grace Jones as the Devil; Peter Gabriel as Judgment; Madonna as Queen of Pentacles. Go see the entire deck. Too bad it isn’t going to be published; I’d buy one just for kicks.
Posting early since I’ll be out of town this weekend. Whether you have children now or simply need to imagine yourself with a child (even someone else’s), where in all the world would you most like to take your child? Where would you like to show your child? Where? When? Most importantly, why?

Thats’s what the author of the now defunct Saturday Six meme would have you think. Below is the official closing sign from the now defunct Saturday Six meme site. Click “continued” to get the real story.
I have decided to close the Saturday Six. I recieved an e-mail saying I had been added to this members list. I saw that there are quite a few Saturday questions, and quite a few for other days. Being the person that I am, I see no reason to partake in having a website of this nature when there are lots of others out there. Therefore, I will no longer have the Saturday Six. Click the link to go answer some questions at another site. Thank you.
