Blog: Ramblings and Rants

What follows is entirely my personal opinion, and the personal opinions of respondants. We could all be wrong.

WordPress or MT 3?

I want things like future posting, something I have on my pro blogs The Design Weblog and Magazine Weblog, but MT 2.6x doesn’t currently offer. I’ve been missing so many Saturday Slants lately because, when Saturday rolls around, I’m usually on a plane. If I could write it on Thurs or Fri, to activate on Sat, then life would be grand.

So, which is better—for that feature and all around? Is it WordPress or MT 3?

Is it difficult to switch to WordPress? How well will it import from MT 2.6x? I have a couple of thousand posts and even more comments.

BlogRolling.com Over and Done With?

Does anyone use BlogRolling.com any more?

I still see blog rolls all over the blogosphere, but there isn’t as much attention paid to them now as a year ago. More importantly, BlogRolling.com itself has changed.

If you keep an eye on BlogRolling.com you’ll notice that, for the last four months, it’s been quiet. Following its acquisition by software site Tucows.com, the normally busy news page was stone silent from 14 May 2004 through 9 September 2004.

During that time apparently nothing changed on BlogRolling.com.

When the news did come back, it was to announce the migration of the site to Tucows’ servers, technical problems related thereto, and the fact that BlogRolling.com’s management were completely oblivious to those issues for days.

Does the blogosphere still need a service like BlogRolling.com?

Should it be BlogRolling.com, or is it time for a competitor to rise up?

Now that BlogRolling.com is owned by the not-so-cool Tucows, BR doesn’t inspire the same warm and fuzzy brand loyalty as it did as a one-man operation started as a labor of love. So, does the blogosphere want BR to continue even it manages to get its act together?

Blogging from Dallas

Greetings from Dallas, Texas.

It’s apparently a shark morning on TNT. After starting my morning with NBC’s “The Today Show”, I posted the Saturday Slant. In the background, while I crafted a fun and absurd Slant, droned the equally absurd Lou Diamond Phillips film Red Water. Now is the essential character exposition for the intelluctual joy ride of Deep Blue Sea.

Then of course—

Ugh. The hotel carpet is desperate need of shampooing, as evidenced by the near black bottoms of my socks. I’m off to buy a pair of slippers.

League of Super Bloggers

Evil, super-powered aliens have landed on Earth and declared their vile intention to take over and destroy all the world’s blogs! Earth’s governments are powerless to stem the blog devouring advance of the aliens. In wave after wave blogs fall, crushed under the boots of the unstoppable juggernaut of blog-conquering, journal-destroying malevolent extraterrestrials. The blogosphere is doomed!

Is there no one who can stop the slaughter?

You have been zapped by a short circuit in a radioactive scroll-wheel mouse and imbued with fantastic powers. Only you and a few others have the power to stop the aliens from destroying the blogosphere, blog by blog.

You must band together with the handful of other mutant bloggers to become heroes, the League of Super Bloggers!

What are your powers? Describe your costume. What is your super name? And, pick four to six other (real) bloggers to assemble into the League of Super Bloggers. Who are they? Briefly, what are their powers? Then tell those bloggers about this Slant, and have them describe their powers and costumes.

How are other people Slanting? Check the comments! Leave a link to your Slant there!
